Elsie Smith Incorporated is an import-export design company that purveys antiques, artisan made furniture and decorations to the trade and public. It evolved from various Elsie Smith antique, furniture, importing and interior design interests.
In 1949, she founded LC Interiors on San Francisco's Columbus Avenue. During the fifties and sixties, she opened designer quality furniture showrooms on Clement and Union Streets. While Elsie Smith searched the world for fine antiques and reproductions, she commissioned skilled artisans to produce her designs. Elsie's discerning eye in selecting unusual furniture and decorations became apparent. As a result, LC Interiors became a popular source for interior designers.
In the early sixties, she founded Elsie Smith Associates at Jackson Square for the trade while keeping LC Interiors on Union Street for the public. Instantly, Elsie Smith Associates was a thriving business. To provide the trade and the public with immediately available furniture and decorations, LC Interiors and Elsie Smith Associates merged to open a warehouse showroom on Battery Street. The trade and the public clamored to buy direct.
In 1972, Elsie Smith Incorporated was established. Two adjacent Battery Street warehouses totaling 60,000 square feet were filled to the brim with imported and domestic handcrafted décor .
Throughout her career, Elsie collected a collage of treasures. Ultimately, she closed her Jackson Square and 945 Battery Street showrooms. Today, her GALLERY may be browsed by the trade and public via this website or by visiting her 915 Battery Street showroom.
